Sergiy Barbashyn, managing partner at Barbashyn Law Firm, has been a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) since 2023. We are delighted to have the opportunity to be part of the international professional community, learn from best practices and participate in discussions on key initiatives in the field of brand protection.

General information about the association

International Trademark Association (INTA) is a leading international association that brings together brand owners and intellectual property professionals to protect trademarks and related rights. Founded in 1878 by seventeen entrepreneurs and manufacturers, INTA has since grown into a global professional community with offices in various regions of the world.

INTA is a non-profit organisation that advocates for effective IP legislation and policies around the world, as well as the harmonisation of mechanisms for enforcing these rights. The organisation’s mission is not only to protect the economic value of brands, but also to develop consumer confidence, stimulate innovation and strengthen society through strong trademarks.

Participation in the annual INTA conference

In May 2025, San Diego, USA, hosted the INTA 2025 Annual Meeting, one of the world’s largest intellectual property events. The event brought together over 10,000 participants from 140 countries, including leading lawyers, business representatives and trademark experts.

Sergiy Barbashyn, managing partner of Barbashyn Law Firm, took an active part in the conference, which lasted several days and included dozens of panels, discussions and business meetings. Numerous negotiations were held with current and potential international partners.

Moderating Table Topic on the topic “AI Law – Intersection with IP”

Sergiy Barbashyn moderated the Table Topic discussion on the relationship between artificial intelligence and intellectual property. The discussion focused on the protection of rights to works created by AI, regulatory approaches in different countries, and the specifics of licensing AI solutions for legal practice.

Particular attention was paid to the question of whether human participation in the creation of a work is sufficient to claim copyright, as well as possible challenges in licensing AI solutions.

Another important aspect of the discussions was the integration of technology into the field of intellectual property protection. Sergiy Barbashyn discussed innovative tools for managing IP portfolios, automating applications, and monitoring intellectual property with representatives of international technology companies. The focus was on solutions that enable lawyers and rights holders to protect their assets more effectively in the digital environment.

What does partnership with INTA mean?

Cooperation with INTA is not only an opportunity to present the state of Ukraine’s legal system, but also a platform for establishing long-term partnerships. Such cooperation opens the way to exchanging experience with colleagues from different countries, participating in world-class events, and obtaining up-to-date information on trends and challenges in the field of IP. It also promotes Ukraine’s vision in the field of intellectual property and strengthens the country’s position in the international legal community.
